TALBOT: A FAMILY HISTORY!
Talbot Équipement Ltd.: Over a Century of History
Founded in 1906 by René Talbot, the Québec-based company Talbot Équipement ltée commenced operations as a supplier of firefighting equipment. Leveraging his experience at Canadian Fire Hose, René Talbot offered a comprehensive range of products for fire stations, from trucks to fire hoses.
From its inception, the company emphasized personalized service. It experienced rapid growth, necessitating a relocation to Dalhousie Street in 1911, followed by the acquisition of land on Saint-Paul Street in 1921 where a building was constructed in 1925.
Family Succession and Diversification
Upon the passing of René Talbot in 1941, his three sons, Paul, Louis, and Jean-Pierre, assumed control of the company. Under the leadership of Louis, the business was renamed Talbot Équipement ltée in 1956 and diversified into the construction sector through partnerships with manufacturers such as Ingersoll Rand and Goodyear. The 1960s marked Talbot Équipement ltée's entry into the drilling sector, capitalizing on the boom in hydroelectric dam construction in Quebec.
In 1983, Marie-France Talbot succeeded her husband Louis as president, before passing the torch to their sons, Mark and Richard. Under their leadership, Talbot Équipement ltée continued its diversification throughout the 1980s and 1990s, reaching agreements with manufacturers in the fields of drilling, natural stone processing, and pulp and paper.
Adaptation and recentering
In 2000, the company relocated to new, more modern facilities on Michel-Fragasso Street. Subsequently, beginning in 2015, Talbot Équipement ltée initiated a refocusing of its operations by divesting its drilling, pulp and paper, and diamond equipment divisions. The latter division was acquired by Sylvain Gallagher, son of Mark Talbot, under the name Talbot les industries de la pierre.
Finally, in 2023, the remaining assets dedicated to civil engineering were sold to Roch Jean and Mathieu Roy, marking the end of an era for Talbot Équipement ltd
